Mr R , a widower, had been a senior sales representative for a local produce merchant. His health is poor but he lives alone in his own house. His income comprises state retirement pension and pension credit including the supplement for severe disability. He also receives the higher rate of attendance allowance.
The Liverpool Merchants’ Guild were able to help by supplementing his income by almost £40 per week. This has enabled Mr R to pay for much needed extra help and care at home.
Mr P, aged 62, had run his own engineering supplies business but had to give up work due to ill health. He lives in his own house with his wife and his income comprises long-term invalidity benefit and a private pension. He pays out council tax, water charges and morgage interest.
The Guild has been able to help by supplementing his income by almost £40 per week.
Miss H, who is 71, has lived in the family home all her life but is now in poor health and needs 24 hour care. The house is in a poor state of repair and a Local Authority Grant is available to cover most of the work needed except for the cost of re-wiring.
The Guild have been able to help with a grant of £2500 towards the cost of re-wiring, which will enable Miss H to continue to live in the family home.
Mr H, aged 68, had been a supervisor for a firm of civil engineers but recently suffered a stroke that has left him severely debilitated and unable to climb stairs or use a stair lift.
The Guild has been able to help with a grant of £5000 towards the cost of downstairs bathroom facilities, which will enable Mr H to continue to live with his wife in their own home.
